. i think that's unfortunate. i don't think it has any place in politics. >> chuck hagel, you were very tepid on "meet the press" a couple of weeks ago. >> i was. >> now you've met with him, you're more comfortable, you'll support him? >> i am. >> what changed? >> i said on your show that i had real concerns. i spent 90 minutes with him. i asked him very specific questions on the things that troubled me. his answers were forth right. and they were answers that alayed my concerns. should we keep every option on the table to prevent a nuclear iran? yes. i went further. i said, do you think we can tolerate a nuclear iran? he said no. and i said to him, well, then, if we had to use military as the only choice, would you? he said yes. second, i asked him hezbollah and hamas, should they be labeled terrorist groups? yes. should israel be forced to negotiate with them if they don't recognize israel's right to exist, if they don't renounce violence? no, absolutely. third, sanctions. do you support increased sanctions? would you support unilateral sanctions in? yes. there were differences b

's quickly go through some of the big name nominees including sort of a controversial pick, chuck hagel for defense secretary replacing leon panetta. >> that's the more controversial of the nominees so far. it's interesting because he is a republican and usually when presidents nominate members of the other party, that party doesn't complain very much but in the case of hagel many in his own party think he's too liberal and his stance on israel are not in accord with the rest of the party. so there is some concern that maybe he may be too controversial a pick. if hi to bet, i think he probably will be confirmed. obviously the other big name is john kerry being nominated for secretary of state replacing hillary clinton and the speculation is that he will sail through and there won't be too much trouble with that nomination. >> now, how quickly can we expect these confirmations? >> you know, there's no telling how quickly some of these will go especially in the case of hagel. there may be debate. i think in the case of kerry it will be very quickly. if i had to bet, probably much of the d

be negative about it. this is interesting, panetta is leaving this legacy for hagel to pick up and we will hear plenty about it when hagel gets grilled by the senate. i think hagel has no answer at the moment because it's a question, lifting the ban, imming it. it's one thing to implement the ban and something else to make it work. you can bet the senate will ask hagel, how will you make it work, senator and he won't have an answer. >> by that time hopefully he will have an answer. colonel jack jacobs. good to see you. savannah. >>> secretary of state hillary clinton returns to capitol hill with heated questions about the terror attack on benghazi, libya. andrea hitmitchell has this sto. >> introduce iing john kerry toe senate confirmation hearing he chaired. it's a safe bet he will get a better reception than the hostile reception they gave hillary clinton on benghazi. after nearly five hours of gruelling testimony, clinton showed rare public emotion talking about the deaths of ambassador chris stevens and three others in benghazi. >> for me, this is not just a matter of policy, it's

with great fashion. >> who are they? >> mr. jack lew for treasury. mr. charles hagel for defense. mr. john kerry for secretary of state. and mr. john brennen of virginia for -- there you go. >> great. >> thank you very much, everybody. look forward to it. >> a very skilled event. i can get you one, man. >> this is a nice one. and that's yours. >> that one actually costs something, harry. >> so what we just witnessed, i think, harry reid was going to help himself to one of the ceremonial pens and the president did him one better by taking one of the, quote, nice ones out of his pocket and handing it to the senator fr nevada. just to review, the president was joking about these nominations all going through in front of the republican leadership, which will have a big say in that. brennan to cia. hagel to the pentagon, kerry to the state department and is lew as chief of staff. andrea mitchell, back outside. >> as people are leaving here, those nominations are pretty much expected to go through. of course, chuck hagel has been the most controversial. but this is really a cabinet and our frien
